New York City part 2

A few days in New York City we just hung around the house and decided to take it easy after a long day of walking. The second day that we walked around was Labor Day Monday. We purchased our tickets to the Statue of Liberty early so that we could for sure get them. We woke up early and headed to the subway.
After a long subway ride and then a little walk we got in line to pick up our tickets for the Statue of Liberty. After that we waited in line for the ferry and got aboard. Here are a few pictures from the ferry.

The beautiful symbol of freedom, the Statue of Liberty

After taking some pictures from the outside, we went inside to see the museum and look out from the pedestal. We had some great views of the city!

Then we headed back on the ferry to go to Ellis Island. Here is a great picture from the ferry.

Ellis Island

Inside the Ellis Island museum. Here is a picture of some of the currency that was collected and exchanged for US dollars.

This is the waiting hall where everyone waited for their name to be called in order to be screened for entering the US. This was full of people everyday!

So the Statue of Liberty was great and we were very happy to see it. We then walked around the area for a while. We saw this, which is a piece that was on top of the world trade center and is now here after the attacks on Sept 11th.

This is the wall street bull, with tons of tourists around it I might add.

There were no protesters today because it was Labor Day, but apparently every other day the sidewalk is packed with protesters.

One Tuesday we were meeting up with our friend Brad who lives in New Jersey. He works in New York City, so we planned on meeting up with him in the morning to put our bags in his car, and then walk around the city for the day, then head home with him after work. It worked out perfectly. Before we met up with Brad, we were walking through Times Square and were able to catch part of the morning show being filmed live. Here are a few pictures.

We walked to see the Chrysler building.

From the movie “Big,” here is the famous FAO Schwartz toy store! It had so many toys inside.

After that we just relaxed a lot inside Borders, catching up on some reading and just relaxing. Then we met up with Brad and headed into New Jersey where we would be staying for 4 days with Brad, his wife JoJo, and their 2 children, Alex and Jack.
