Day 10 and 11

The weekend was another peaceful time at the beach. This time we went both days and really soaked in the rays and enjoyed the cool Mediterranean Sea. We did our laundry and cleaned our room up-which with 3 women in such close quarters was quite extensive. :)

At dinner on Sunday, there was an interesting conversation. So I was talking with Sanja in English about politics and the issues faced in the US and Serbia. One of the patients, Rafa, became agitated that we were speaking in English instead of Spanish. I explained I was unable to express myself sufficiently in Spanish over this topic and that’s why we were speaking English. Well, Rafa would have nothing of it and untactfully told us to stop. So I began to engage him in conversation about Spain politics. He immediately began complaining about the lack of unity in Spain due to the regional pride within the northern provinces. This was ironic since he had just forced us to comply with his request of not speaking in English which contradicts the mentality of the northern provinces which want the right to speak their local dialects and teach it in school. He was unwilling to give me that same right and respect that he for himself (He was from Valencia); just interesting to say the least.
