Day 8

Today was the day. Today I, Jordan, was going to lead a workshop on the importance of a Healthly Relationships. Well, trying to emphasize and focus on solutions instead of the problems my designed purpose of the day was to talk about effective communication methods between couples. Specifically communication about expectations. This presented as a hard topic to handle because of the language barrier.

In the first group, which was a bunch of vacas (or cows), just wanted to vent about the things that are wrong with society and how they each have it figured out. Yet again, another group with them that they did not want to look in the mirror and understand how to apply truth to their lives. They were not receiving government money for unemployment because they had life all figured out. Needless to say, this group validated my belief that hand outs ruin people. I frequently told our group, in English, this group just comes each day to get their “fish”. The “fish” is in reference to this old adage: Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.

The second and third groups went well and had some splendid self-reflection and self-application of how to better their lives (I might add these people were not getting paid for attendance or participation, whereas the first group was). They really engaged in the topic and understood how unless the communicate what they want and expect beforehand they not ever begin to expect those desires to be fulfilled.

  1. Thanks for comparing me to the guys you meet. Not knowing them, I hope that's a good thing! And glad I can bring a little 'jesting' into your life. Life too short not to 'enjoy a good laugh' as long as it 'is not at the expensive of others and helps you just enjoy the day and being alive'. Being a 'joker' just makes the day goes better and helps keep that smile on your face all day. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your travels this winter in AZ. Be safe.
