Patim day 1

Thursday 7/15
Well our uncertainty about finding Patim was at least unfounded. Not that we found it on our own either, since luckily their was another volunteer waiting for us at the train station. Her name was Stephanie and she was from Italy.

Our greatest fears negated upon arrival in Castellon we now headed to the Patim office to find out more information about what was expected of us. We arrived, met Javier our contact person/volunteer coordinator who was also a very kind man that was very helpful throughout our time with Patim.

We met the other volunteers that were also there with us. Sanja, from Serbia, spoke Spanish, French, and English perfectly and also spoke a little Russian and Italian on top of Serbian. Amaya, from Spain (Catalunya area), who had learned English a long time ago in school but had not practiced in a very long time. Each of us was to be here for 15 days while Stephanie was a long term volunteer at 3 months.

We got some initial details and then headed off to the “communidad” which is where we were going to be staying. Sanya, Amaya, Krystle and I were suppose to share a bedroom which was about the size of some walk-in-closets that I’ve seen. It had a bathroom and shower thankfully as well as just enough room to fit one dresser for the 4 of us.

  1. Lots of info, thanks for bringing me up to date. Seems like you're have a great time. What's with all the volunteering? Is that how you're paying for some of your housing? What do you do during the volunteering? Build houses, clean buildings, sweep the streets? But it sounds interesting.
