Day 12

Monday is the same in every country. It just drags on. People who had bad weekends take it out on everyone around them. That’s what our first group of the day did as we spoke about Sexuality. They once again fought us on every point we made and were once again disrespectful during the session. I said once again as the group ended, “Here’s your fish thanks for coming today”.

The other groups went well again and discussed amicably the differences in philosophy of sexuality and who’s role it is to teach sexuality to children. Whether is was the responsibility of parents, the government and it’s schools, or the streets. It was quite interesting to hear individuals recount how they learned things on the streets (which means with friends or experimenting in a couple), a few facts in school from the younger generation and nothing from schools from the older generation.

I present this next story because it is true and while difficult to hear it provides the perfect example of why Fathers and Mothers MUST talk to their children about what is truth and what is wrong in everything but especially SEXUALITY. If you do not tell your kids, someone else will.

Luis, recounted a story from his childhood that was difficult to hear and I had enormous compassion on him. He told us that when he was young he had feelings of homosexuality and asked his father about it. His father unsure of what to say or do took his son to the Priest to get spiritual guidance and counseling. The priest sodomized and abused the young man, thus sending his fact-finding quest about his sexuality into a downward spiral convincing him that he was homosexual. The young man did not tell his father and they went home, the father thinking he had been healed or received the answer he needed from the priest.

This story reminds me of the statement; “Only you can prevent Forest Fires”. Why. Because communication of what’s true, regardless of how difficult a topic, perpetuates truth and provides a stable society and atmosphere for progress. The actions of this priest our despicable. TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT WHAT IS TRUE. About sex, drugs, alcohol, etc. The easy parts and the difficult parts.
