Day 9

Today we went to a ceremony for 25 years of Patim at the ayundamiento in Castellon. This was at the main government building, so that was pretty neat to be inside of that. Here are a few pictures of that.

So Patim has been around helping people for 25 years, since we were born. The ceremony was not very exciting, but we just sat through and listened.

After the ceremony, we did a little shopping in town. Jordan found a favorite book of his in Spanish, Libro de los Sombras Contados (Book of Counted Shadows) which has a different title in the English version called Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind. (Read it!)

Playing Rummikub!

After getting back to the community later, us 3 girls decided to get in the pool while all of the patients were in their meeting for the day. We figured we had at least a half an hour. So we ran to change into our bathing suits and then jumped in the pool. It was a nice change. Of course, about 2 minutes after we got into the pool, we heard voices and all of the guys started walking over. We were not wanting to be seen in our bathing suits so we quickly ran out of the pool. Bummer, but oh well.

Today we are going to tell you about Marie and Luis. Luis is a homosexual and very proud of it. Every meeting they have he is talking about it and very descriptive – too descriptive, and I am glad I don’t understand it all. He is a super nice guy and was very helpful when it was his turn to take charge of the laundry.

Marie is a grandmother and at the beginning was very withdrawn from us. After a little while she wanted to talk more. I think she was struggling with some stuff, so it was difficult for her. On one occasion she wanted to tell Jordan how to tell time like the English do (from England), and that was very funny to him as she was saying instead of thirty past 8 for 8:30, the English people say eight past thirty… don’t know where she learned that, but was very adamant that it was correct.
